I made this site because English K-beauty pages kept mashing a brand's ingredient list, a TikTok recap and a Reddit thread into one “review,” often after the bottle on the shelf had already changed.
K-beauty moves fast. A serum goes #1 at Olive Young in Seoul, TikTok catches fire, and for months the only English “reviews” are affiliate blogs written by people who never opened the bottle.
popkr is an independent database of K-beauty formulas and real-world use, written for English-speaking buyers. Official product facts, public discussion, Field Notes from people who used the product, and popkr's own analysis are always labeled separately. I don't pretend to have tested products by hand. If nobody has sent a Field Note, the page says so.
How content is made
- Official facts. Identity, market, price, images, and INCI taken from a dated brand or retailer source. These are product facts, not experience claims.
- Public discussion. Attributed threads and comments from places like Reddit, X, or YouTube. Every claim that leans on this class links to a canonical URL. Public discussion is never relabeled as a Field Note.
- Direct Field Notes. Structured first-person accounts submitted to popkr by someone who used a named product/version, with disclosure, context, duration, and consent. Gifted notes show that they were provided free for testing.
- popkr analysis. Formula comparisons, decision tables, uncertainty, and fit/skip framing. Analysis can connect sources. It does not invent experience or consensus.
Brands and retailers can't pay for placement, preview a page, or change what it says. Affiliate links, when present, pay the same whatever the verdict. Here's exactly how evidence works. Money is explained on the affiliate disclosure.
